My story begins in December 2000, when I took on the role of a home baker, determined to discover my six-year-old son's favorite Christmas cookie. After experimenting with 13 different recipes, enduring a few tears, and producing around 500 cookies, a cherished tradition was born.
Since then, cookie baking weekend has transformed into a three-day adventure every December. Take-out becomes our dinner, and we find ourselves eating on paper plates spread across the floor, surrounded by mountains of cookies. While we always include the classics, each year brings the excitement of new recipes, with hopes that one will earn a permanent spot in our holiday lineup. With hundreds of cookies made, sharing them has become a joy - gifting to neighbors, coworkers, family, and anyone eager to indulge.
Over time, my baking extended beyond Christmas. Cookies were donated for school fundraisers, cupcakes created for celebrations, and muffins whipped up for early morning dance practices. I found myself embodying the spirit of Betty Crocker far more often than just during the holidays. The kitchen became my sanctuary, and people began eagerly anticipating my Christmas cookies as early as September!
In 2023, I made significant dietary changes to manage arthritis pain, including a shift to gluten-free eating. Frustrated by tasteless gluten-free recipes, I revisited the basics, experimenting with alternative ingredients and revamping my beloved recipes. The response was overwhelmingly positive, and soon I was fielding requests to sell my baked goods. After several hesitant "no’s," I realized this could be something more. Thus, in 2025, the Cozy Kitchen was born.
The name evokes memories of that first Christmas 25 years ago in my tiny kitchen, when my son asked, "Why do these taste so good?" The answer has always been clear: it’s because they’re made with love.
